My mom finally came through town so I made her a belated mothers day cake.. It turned out AWESOME! if I do say so myself!!
The cake is a black chocolate cake (my grandmothers recipe) with chocolate icing between the layers and covering the outside, with a layer of marshmallow fondant covering it. I made the details out of fondant and brushed them with pearl dust to give them some shimmer. My mom loved it, and it tasted just like gramma used to make!!

Ive got a busy weekend planned… 2 cakes to bake, a golf tourney to photograph plus my moms and pops will be here on sunday.. so I have a whole house to get semi clean! yikes!
Oh yeah.. dont forget that we’re renoing our house right now.. so there’s that too!

We had planned out a long weekend full of renos and getting stuff done.. and it sorta happened!! Saturday we were both kinda sick so we didnt get much done, but had a nice day of hanging out with the kids and did a bit of cleaning. We also sent Tye off with Grandma and Grandpa to go camping with his cousins for 2 nights. We missed him A LOT, but did have a nice quiet weekend with just Norah to bug us. Sunday we Rob spent the day at his brothers house putting the pool liner in his new pool,
while Norah and I took our neice to the mall to hang out and pick out some new summer clothes. It was nice to have some girl time!
And today Rob and his brother and dad put up the siding on one side of the house.. it was so exciting to see progress finally starting!! YAH!! it looks really good and we’re really happy with the color we picked out.
I am *hopefully* going to be going to my cousins wedding this summer back in my hometown, and am in the midst of finding something to wear. I’m wanting something a little different, not like the typical ‘smart set’ or ‘le chateau’ dress style that everyone always has..

We have been avid biggest loser watchers this season and have been cheering for Tara ever since Kristin got booted.. the finale was on last night, and who takes the cake?!?! HELEN! what?! the 48 year old wall flower power house! She beat Tara by a meesly 1.75%! what a kick in the pants for Tara.. the girl that never once fell below the yellow line, and won I think over half of the challenges!
Well.. i’m happy for you Helen, way to go! you lost a crazy amount of weight and look amazing..
Well.. since it was just mother’s day on sunday, I thought I should add some cake pictures and show you the cupcakes I made for my mom-in-law. Don’t worry, I am making something special for my own mom too.. i’m just waiting till she comes through Kamloops next week (I will add the pictures then!)
